The Seven Continents
The Earth has seven very large areas of land that are called called continents. They are, from the largest to the smallest: Asia, Africa, North America, South America, Antarctica, Europe, and Australia. Islands are usually are usually considered to be part of the nearest continent.
North America and South America are treated as separate continents, but they can also be thought of as a single unit called “America,” or “the Americas.”
Asia is not only the largest continent by areas, but it’s also the continent with the most people (over 4.5 billion). Antarctica is the continent with the fewest people (About 1,000 people, mostly scientists, live there during the winter months; in summertime, the population grows to about 5,000).
