Willis Carrier: A Very Cool Inventor…
In 1902, fresh out of college, a young man named Willis Carrier went to work in Buffalo, New York at a company that made equipment for factories. Within a few years, he had invented something he called, “An Apparatus for Treating Air,” better known today as air conditioning. What a cool invention!
Another famous American inventor, Thomas Edison, reminded us that “thinking is hard work.” But even when it’s hard to do, thinking pays, and sometimes it pays off in very big ways.
Willis Carrier’s bright idea had a big payoff, and your bright ideas can pay off, too. So, keep thinking about ways you can make your world a better place. There’s always a better way, and when you find it, then like Willis Carrier, your hot idea will have very cool results.

Niagara Falls
Niagara Falls isn’t just one waterfall; it’s three waterfalls located near Buffalo, New York (the city where Willis Carrier invented air conditioning). The three waterfalls that make up Niagara Falls are: Horseshoe Falls, the American Falls, and the Bridal Veil Falls.
Niagara Falls, which is on the border between Canada and the United States, is the biggest waterfall in North America. It’s also a place that the Ryder family visits in Trouble on the TV Train. In that story, May Ryder and her family take a boat trip very near the falls. And in real life, tour boats can take you right up to Niagara. If you decide to go, please don’t forget to wear your raincoat!

Fun Fact: The sun is a star, like the other stars you see at night. But, the sun is much, much brighter because it’s much, much closer. If you shined a light at the next nearest star, it would take over four years for that beam of light to arrive there.
Just for fun,
Niagara Falls is located at the border between two contries. What are they?
