Wilma Rudolph Didn’t Let Trouble Slow Her Down!
As a young girl, Wilma Rudolph became very sick with a disease called polio. For a while, Wilma couldn’t get out of bed. Then, she had to wear a brace on her leg to help her walk. Every week, Wilma’s mother took her to the hospital for treatment, and it worked.
Just five years after taking that brace off her left leg, Wilma Rudolph won a bronze medal at the 1956 Olympics. Four years after that, she became the first woman to win three gold medals in a single Olympic competition.
So, the next time you’re feeling sorry for yourself, think about a little girl with polio who became a world champion. And remember that in the game called life, the people who don’t give up are the ones who usually grab the gold.
Wilma Rudolph Didn’t Give Up. Neither Should You.
